Photo Contest Details
Explora is launching a new photography contest to celebrate Mauritius through landscapes, places and everyday local scenes.
The theme of this contest is “Mauritius Differently: Landscapes & Everyday Scenes”. The idea is to show Mauritius from a fresh, authentic or meaningful perspective — not only the postcard view, but also the places, moods, details and moments that make the island special.
How to Participate
To take part in this photo contest, please create or log in to your Explora account, upload your photo, and include the tag "photo-contest-08".
You can review the general guidelines before submitting your photo.
Theme Requirements
Your photo should show Mauritius through its landscapes, places, atmosphere or everyday scenes.
Accepted subjects may include:
- Beaches, lagoons, mountains, waterfalls and coastal views
- Villages, streets, markets, sugarcane fields and local places
- Sunsets, sunrises, clouds, weather, reflections and natural light
- Fishing boats, local activities, traditional scenes and island life
- Nature, wildlife, trails, viewpoints and hidden corners of Mauritius
- People included naturally in a wider scene, for example fishermen in a boat, walkers on a beach, people in a market or silhouettes in a landscape
Important restriction: portrait photography is not accepted on Explora and will not be accepted for this contest.
People may appear in the photo only if they are part of a wider scene. The main subject should be Mauritius, its landscape, its atmosphere, its location or its everyday life — not one person in particular.
Not accepted:
- Individual portraits
- Selfies
- Couple, family or model photo shoots
- Close-up photos of a person as the main subject
- Photos where an identifiable person is clearly the main focus
- Photos that do not clearly relate to Mauritius
Entries
Photos submitted to this contest will be reviewed before publication. Accepted photos will appear on Explora and may also be featured on Explora’s Facebook group or social media pages.
Submitted photos should follow Explora’s general photo guidelines and should help visitors discover Mauritius through authentic photography.
Submission Deadline
This photo contest is open from 25 Aug.2026 at noon until 25 Sep. 2026 at midnight.
An additional voting and viewing period of 1 week will be allocated for visitors to discover, like and view the submitted photos.
Winner Selection
The winning photo will be selected based on a combination of photo quality, relevance to the theme, views, likes and overall appreciation from the Explora community.
The final decision will be made by Explora and/or the contest sponsor.
The winner will be announced on Explora’s Facebook group and agrees to have the winning photo featured there.
Prize
The winner will receive an ADNA watch with two interchangeable straps.
About Explora
Explora is a free and non-commercial photography project created to showcase Mauritius through the eyes of local photographers and people who love the island.
The platform already features more than 1,600 photos of Mauritius, contributed by nearly 100 photographers, with the goal of helping people discover the island while giving more visibility to photographers in Mauritius.
Results
The results of this photo contest will be announced after the submission and voting period.
