The beach of Pointe aux Piments is generally quiet, far from the big crowds of Flic en flac, Blue Bay, Pereybère or Mont Choisy. Coming from the capital through the village of Baie du Tombeau and Arsenal, the coastal road is very atypical. A narrow and very busy road, adorned by large filaos and coconut trees, leads to the heart of this small village. The first public beach is just after Le Meridien and is well worth a visit. It is generally a very quiet beach with no tourist activity. On the other hand, it's a great place to spend a few hours in the sun and enjoy the relaxed local life around the beach. The parking area right next to the beach offers good opportunities to taste the delicious Mauritian cuisine, with some quality snack stands serving a variety of local cuisine at very competitive prices. You can find exotic fruit salads and typical Mauritian snacks. Further north, just after the hotel Le Récif, the beach becomes calmer and the seabed a little more rocky. Good place for a picnic, this part of the beach is not ideal for swimming, due to the combination of rocky bottom and shorter distance to the coral reef.
