Located on the west coast of Mauritius, in the heart of the Indian Ocean, Wolmar is a small town known for its beautiful beach and especially its proximity to Flic-en-Flac, the most important and popular beach of the country. This part of the country's coastline has undergone a very strong development thanks in particular to the hotel industry and tourism and the small commune has not been spared. All around, several hotel establishments were thus built and the area abounds in tourists in mop-up under the ambient tropical climate. In addition to the hotels, several other accommodation possibilities are available, furnished rentals, bed and breakfast or even cottages. The origin of the name of the town remains mysterious and its foundation dates back to the 19th century like many other towns in the country. It would have developed with the installation of a small community of fishermen who would have found there an ideal place to live of their activity. The beach: take advantage of the beautiful fine white sand beach of the locality and let yourself go to relax and rest in the shade of the filaos, these trees which grow on the beach and which will bring you some freshness. For a more colorful and popular atmosphere, go to the nearby beach of Flic-en-Flac where you can mingle with the local population while swimming and sunbathing. Around the commune, many natural sites are to be visited and include the Black River Gorges National Park, and the Tamarin Falls. Many restaurants, bars and nightclubs are accessible on the west coast and allow you to enjoy local and international cuisine and to spend beautiful evenings. In the area, several water sports and activities are available.Scuba diving is particularly recommended to discover beautiful seabed.A little further, the beach of Tamarin is famous for its surfing spot. To reach this township, you must first go to Mauritius by plane or possibly by boat. There are no trains, but you can rent a car (Hertz or Avis) and use public transportation, namely the local bus (a must, for its folkloric and colorful side) or cabs. The largest cities of the country are accessible by road, especially the capital Port-Louis, which is about 30 km away, while the airport is located in the south-east of the country at about 60 km.
