Endemic species of Mauritius, the green gecko feeds mainly on invertebrates but also consumes fruits and flower nectar. Sometimes, it can feed on its own young. In Mauritius, it is widely distributed, except in the driest areas. It occupies various habitats and adapts quite well to certain modifications induced by human activity. It is most often observed on palm trees, pandanus, ravenalas and banana trees. This gecko is actually a protected species in Mauritius.
