Characteristics: The ostrich is the largest and fattest living bird. It is unable to fly because of its weight. Its long wings are used for intimidation, courtship and protection of young. It runs for long periods at 50 km/h, peaks at 70 km/h and strides up to 9 m. Did you know? Often polygamous, the male digs a depression in the ground where his females come to lay a dozen eggs each.
