Chameleon portrait closeup

A chameleon is not a single species but a family of lizards called Chamaeleonidae, or chameleon in common language. There are many species of chameleons, such as the chamaeleo calyptratus (crested chameleon) or the trioceros jacksonii willegensis (horned chameleon), among the most common species in captivity. Despite some exceptions with some species living in desert environments, chameleons are a family of arboreal reptiles, native to tropical environments. They have an insectivorous diet with a frugivorous tendency, which means that they feed mainly on insects, and supplement their vitamin needs with fruits. They are diurnal animals, their eyes do not allow night vision, they avoid moving at night. They live on average between five and ten years depending on the species.
