The south and more particularly the south-west is well known by Mauritian people for its winds and as such kite-surfing. Le Morne beach has been hosting prestigious international championships organized by the Global Kitesports Association. There are several kitesurfing spots in Mauritius. The most famous of them is located in the southwest of the island, off the beach of Le Morne. On the lagoon, you will have the opportunity to mix flat, small waves and chop depending on the tide. The north of the island is particularly interesting for experts. Among our favorite kitesurfing spots, there is of course Cap Malheureux and its smooth lagoon, Trou aux Biches and Anse La Raie, probably the most versatile spot with its constant wind, its calm lagoon and its outer reef where waves can reach two meters high. On the south coast, Bel Ombre is also a popular spot with its large, smooth and shallow lagoon. At Riambel, initiated kitesurfers will enjoy large waves and a powerful current, perfect for freestyle. Ideal for all levels, the east coast is full of interesting spots like Belle Mare where beginners can enjoy a large area to learn. Palmar and Poste Lafayette are among the most complete spots for kitesurfing in Mauritius: stable and predictable trade winds, nice waves for freestyle and wind to try tricks.
