Milky Way over the tranquil sea and boats at Poudre d'Or village in Mauritius at night

Milky way above the sea at Poudre d'Or village Mauritius

Poudre d'Or under a starry night with boats in the lagoon. Amazing reflection of boats and trees at night. The tranquil and lush village of Poudre d'Or, located in the north east, depicts Mauritian life. A memorial was created in 1944 to commemorate the shipwreck of the Saint-Géran, which sank off the coast of Poudre d'Or in 1744, killing 167 people on board. Bernardin de Saint-novel Pierre's Paul and Virginie was inspired by this naval calamity. This is also the setting for Mauritian novelist Natacha Appanah's novel "Les Rochers de Poudre d'Or" in 2003, which tells the story of Indian "indentured workers" who have worked in the area's sugar cane farms since the end of the nineteenth century.
