Longhorn Cowfish with small horns and white spots photographed underwater in Mauritius.

Longhorn Cowfish Close-Up

A close-up underwater photo of what appears to be a Longhorn Cowfish, also known as a horned boxfish, photographed in Mauritius. Its small forward-pointing "horns", rounded box-like body, pale greenish colour, and white spots give it a very unusual and almost comical appearance. Around Mauritius, this species may be seen in shallow marine areas, especially near reefs, rocks, sandy bottoms, and seagrass-like habitats where it searches for small bottom-dwelling creatures. Isn't it fascinating how some reef fish look so strange that they almost seem designed by imagination?
