This fish is venomous. Also called flying scorpionfish, it has long spines along its dorsal fin. The lionfish has alternating light and dark vertical stripes on its body. It lives in lagoons, coral reefs, slopes or under overhangs, estuaries, and in dark places up to 55 meters deep. The lionfish feeds on fish and crustaceans. It can reach 38 cm long. This species is oviparous.
