Trou aux Cerfs is the most impressive crater of Mauritius, both for its enormous size and for its imposing vegetation. Even if today it is not considered extinct, the volcano that created this crater has been dormant for centuries, but it could be active again in the next thousand years. Trou aux Cerfs has an oval shape and its diameter is between 300 and 500 meters, with a depth that reaches 100 meters. The volcano is located at 605 meters above sea level in the town of Curepipe, on the central plateau of the island. Like the Grand Bassin, the other crater that is worth a visit, Trou aux Cerfs is a must-see for any stay in Mauritius. Both the image of the crater itself and the panoramic view of the surroundings are priceless. It is also a favorite place for locals to play sports and run on the surrounding trail.
