The island's pyramids are the most mysterious buildings. They are spread out over a few kilometers in the sugar cane fields, catching the attention of passers-by on the nearby roadways. One is soon absorbed by the structures' enormous magnitude and architecture from the ground level. Ferns have taken over some of the areas. The lack of mortar to keep the stones in place is particularly noteworthy. Because of their earthen construction, it is feasible to climb them and reach the summit, which is why they are frequently visited. According to a planter whose crops are located at the foot of some of the pyramids, a large number of people visit the 'pyramids' on a regular basis. They do, however, fuel conspiracy ideas in Mauritius and elsewhere. Texts that span several years have already been released, as well as explanatory films. Some explorers and authors believe they were created by people who came to Mauritius before the Arabs, who are said to have been the first visitors. But what is it about these stone heaps that makes people so envious? Probably due of the odd resemblances to genuine pyramids found elsewhere. Those on the island of Tenerife, in particular. The fact that Tenerife's constructions do not exceed 12 meters adds fuel to the fire. In 2009, Bosnian Semir Sam Osmanagich, who calls himself the "discoverer of pyramids," traveled to Mauritius with his wife to promote his research on the pyramids. He aimed to show that these structures existed before the Arab invasion of the island in the 16th century. Three of these 'pyramids' were oriented "nearly in the axis of the sun during the summer solstice," he added during his presentation. They would have been erected by an itinerant navigator, he claimed. In the same year, Antoine Gigal, an Egyptian expert, author, and journalist, mentioned pyramids discovered in Mauritius on his website. These monuments, he claims, were built by tourists who left their mark in Tenerife, Sicily, and here.
